Naomi Shemer is perhaps the most important Israeli songwriter of our generation. Her songs have been part of Israel since the 1950s, when she wrote children’s songs from her home in Kibbutz Kinneret. She later wrote songs for military bands that became huge hits, such as The Market Song (Shir Hashuk) and Waltz for the Protection of Nature (Vals Lehaganat Hatzome’ach). Some of her songs became a mainstay of Israeli song, such as Jerusalem of Gold (Yerushalayim Shel Zahav), the anthem of the Six Day War in 1967, and Let it Be (Lu Yehi), a song from the Yom Kippur War in 1973. She continued to compose hundreds of songs, many of which became an integral part of Israel’s soundtrack.
The concert will feature the Hakol Over Habibi group. Hakol Over Habibi were Naomi’s favorite group and performed many of her songs, some of which she wrote especially for them.
Among the songs that will be performed at the concert: Wandering Singer (Zamar Noded), A Night on Achziv Beach (Lailah Bechof Ach’ziv), For all These Things (Al Kol Eleh), The Party’s Over (Hachagigah Nigmeret), They Say there is a Land (Omrim Yeshna Eretz), Noa, Hot Days in the Outpost (Chamsinim Bamishlat), To the Water Wells (El Borot Hamayim), In the Land of Things that Never Were (Be’eretz Lahada”m), Jubilee Song (Shir Yovel), I’m a Guitar (Ani Gitara) and more.
