Nir Gavrieli, oboe

Began his oboe studies with Mrs. Tal Levin and later on with Mr. Dudu Carmel at the Israel Music Conservatory Tel Aviv. Upon finishing his military service as an ‘Excellent Musician’ and his B.A at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and later went to study for his M.A in Germany, first at the class of Prof. Diethelm Jonas at The Lübeck Academy of Music and then at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, where he graduated with flying colors at the class of Prof. Nick Deustch.

After graduating he played at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for two years, where he took lessons with Henrik Wahlgren and Domenico Orlando. He then joined the Nationaltheater-Orchester Mannheim, and in 2018-21 was the principal oboist at the Stadttheater- Orchester in Klagenfurt, Austria. Joined the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra upon returning to Israel.

As a guest player, Gavrieli played at some of the world’s most prestigious halls and with many an orchestra, including the Israel Philharmonic, The Budapest Festival Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie-Orchester, Theater Lübeck Orchestra, MDR Orchestra, the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Camerata, Staatskapelle Dresden, Dresden Philharmonic among others, and played with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Chailly, Ivan Fischer, Andris Nelsons, Valery Gergiev, Herbert Blomstedt, Sir John Elliot Gardiner and many others.

Gavrieli is a recipient of scholarships from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Förderergesellschaft Lübeck, the Yehudi Menuhin Fund “Live Music Now”, The America-Israel Culture Fund and the DAAD. He had also won prizes in competitions held by the Music Academies in Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv and participated in the finals of the Yamaha Competition and the Gillette Fox International Competitions.

Gavrieli performs also as a soloist and plays Chamber Music in Israel, Germany and Austria. He also played in numerous festivals throughout the world, including the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, Bach Festival in Leipzig, Ostfriesland Summer Festival, Abu-Gosh Festival, the Salzburg Festival and the Proms in London.

As well as a musician, Gavrieli was also a Prof. for oboe at the Gustav Mahler University in Klagenfurt, Austria. He is teaching oboe at the Hasadna Conservatory in Jerusalem.
