about

Yonah Zur

Violinist Yonah Zur regularly performs throughout Israel, the US, and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician in both traditional, as well as contemporary repertoire. Since returning to Israel two years ago he has appeared as a soloist with the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and with the Music-Lovers’ Orchestra and is a regular guest with the Israeli Chamber Project and Ensemble Meitar, among others. Zur joined the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA, in September 2011.
Zur has performed at the Marlboro, Yellow Barn, and Tanglewood summer festivals, where he shared the stage with members of the Guarneri, Emerson, and Juilliard Quartets, and with pianists Richard Goode, Gilbert Kalish, and Bruno Canino. This summer he returns to the FestspieleMecklenbug-Vorpommern with a chamber ensemble from Carnegie Hall.
Zur’s view, that an artist plays a vital role in the society in which he is active, manifests in his numerous educational activities. In 2008-2010 he was a fellow of the ACADEMY—a program of Carnegie Hall, the Weill Music Institute and the NYC Board of Education. The program combines first-rate performance experiences at Carnegie Hall and the NYC area with rigorous work in the public schools and other social institutions. This is the third year that he participates in the chamber music program that the Jerusalem Municipality sends out to thousands of local school children.
Zur graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance having studied with Avi Abramovich, and earned his Masters at The Juilliard School with Robert Mann. He currently serves on the faculty at the Conservatory of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He was a recipient of the AICF scholarships from 1995-2003.
