Nizar Elkhater

Pianist and composer Nizar Elkhater was born in Lod in 1985. A graduate of the Stricker Conservatory in Tel Aviv, where he studied piano under Malka Mevorakh and composition under Ronen Shapira, he then went on to study for his master’s degree under Dr. Andre Flavin. In 2002 he had won a competition at the Stricker Conservatory, and soon afterwards wrote a concert for piano and orchestra, which was performed in severalplaces, with the Stricker Orchestra.

In 2005 and 2006 he had won ‘Rome per Jerusalem’ competition. From 2007 to 2011 he had won several competitions, among those ‘Best Schubert Performance’ in Vienna. Nizar took part in many master classes in Israel and overseas, and played in concerts and festivals in Italy, Spain, Croatia, Lithuania, Germany, France, Cyprus and Austria.

In 2012 he had founded the ABAAD Ensemble, which includes a string quartet, flute, qanun, oud and percussion, which also performed his own compositions and adaptations. In addition Nizar writes compositions, conducts and performs with several Israeli choirs, constantly active in the development of musical education for the young, guiding students preparing for their final exams in music and conducts children’s choirs throughout Israel. An initiator and active in several varied chamber ensembles, Nizar also performs with orchestras, for whom he also writes his own compositions, and performs piano recitals in Israel and abroad.
