{"id":4731,"date":"2020-01-22T11:55:18","date_gmt":"2020-01-22T11:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/?p=4731"},"modified":"2020-01-22T12:03:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T12:03:23","slug":"%d7%9e%d7%aa%d7%9f-%d7%a4%d7%95%d7%a8%d7%aa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/en\/%d7%9e%d7%aa%d7%9f-%d7%a4%d7%95%d7%a8%d7%aa\/","title":{"rendered":"Matan Porat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hailed by the <em>New York Times<\/em> for his \u201cmagnificent sound and breath of expression\u201d, pianist and composer Matan Porat has performed in distinguished venues including the Philharmonie in Berlin, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Auditorium du Louvre in Paris and Alte Oper in Frankfurt, and with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic, and Hong Kong Sinfonietta.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Known for his unique, narrative-based programming, Porat\u2019s varied repertoire ranges from the complete Bach Partitas and Schubert Sonatas to Ives\u2019 Concord Sonata and the Ligeti Concerto. His debut CD for MIRARE, <strong>Variations on a theme by Scarlatti<\/strong> \u2013 a 65-minute program of pieces from Couperin to Boulez which all relate to Scarlatti\u2019s Sonata K. 32 \u2013 was praised as \u201ca fantastic album that one should hear over and over again\u201d by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.<\/p>\n<p>His following CD, <strong>Lux<\/strong>, is a recital of pieces around light, from dawn to nightfall, has won 5* in Diapason.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Matan Porat has participated in many acclaimed festivals including Marlboro, Lockenhaus, Ravinia, Verbier, Hohenems, La Folle Journ\u00e9e, La Roque d\u2019Antheron, Piano aux Jacobins and Musicfest Berlin. Chamber music appearances include performances with the Artemis Quartet, Quatuor Ysa\u00ffe, Cuarteto Casals, Pacifica, Modigliani, Schumann and Jerusalem Quartets.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His love for the performing arts has led him to collaborate with legendary director Peter Brook, touring with his production of Mozart\u2019s Magic Flute for piano solo and 7 singers; with the Ballett am Rhein in the Opernhaus D\u00fcsseldorf and with the music theater group Nico and the Navigators in Bozar and Konzerthaus Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>Porat also improvises live music for silent films, hailed by The New-Yorker\u2019s Alex Ross as \u201can astounding feat of creative musicianship\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in Tel-Aviv, Matan Porat studied with Emanuel Krasovsky, Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires and Murray Perahia, obtaining his Master\u2019s degree from the Juilliard School.
