A deep and resounding call, it is both a plea and a proclamation. The human voice in its various guises \u2013voice of prayer, voice of message, voice of personal and public responsibility \u2013 stands at the center of this year\u2019s artistic program.<\/p>\n<p>The festival brings together sacred traditions, operatic drama, liturgical depth, classical composition and authentic communal roots \u2013 threads intertwining in the rich textures of our cultural fabric \u2013 and offers a diverse experience, traversing boundaries of languages, of faiths, and of musical styles.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights include Ben- Haim\u2019s Yizkor and Weinberg\u2019s Kaddish symphony, profound musical responses to loss and remembrance; the intensity of Puccini\u2019s Il tabarro and Tosca, where voice confronts power and longing; and Kedusha, a journey into the sacred sounds of Jewish Europe with the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra; Mendelssohn\u2019s Elijah channels prophetic fire, while Strauss\u2019s Die Fledermaus offers a sparkling, celebratory reprieve. We close with a tribute to the iconic Umm Kulthum, performed by Firkat El Nur\u2014 a celebration of Arab musical heritage and a voice that continues to echo across generations. The first musical sounds played over the airwaves, in the launch event for the Mandatory Broadcasting Service broadcasting station in March 1936, came from the piano of Arieh Sachs, one of the orchestra\u2019s founders. He played the introduction to a song sung by cantor Chaim Vittorio Weinberg.<\/p>\n<p>The Jewish cantorial tradition draws its melodies from tunes used in prayer, but it also leans on operatic singing. Weinberg completed his studies in singing at the Conservatory in Milan; Yossele Rosenblatt used to visit the theater and opera of Hamburg, and even met the legendary tenor Enrico Caruso in the city. At the heart of the 87th season are a pair of concerts dedicated to the memory of the victims of October 7. In addition, we will be celebrating Julian Rachlin&#8217;s, our Music Director, birthday in a special chamber concert.\u00a0 We will also collaborate with several festivals such as MustonenFest festival and the International Solo Dance Festival in Jerusalem.
