{"id":1084,"date":"2016-09-21T11:27:17","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T11:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/en\/%d7%9e%d7%9c%d7%97%d7%99%d7%a0%d7%aa-%d7%94%d7%91%d7%99%d7%aa\/"},"modified":"2024-10-20T10:04:27","modified_gmt":"2024-10-20T10:04:27","slug":"%d7%9e%d7%9c%d7%97%d7%99%d7%9f-%d7%94%d7%91%d7%99%d7%aa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/en\/%d7%90%d7%95%d7%93%d7%95%d7%aa\/%d7%9e%d7%9c%d7%97%d7%99%d7%9f-%d7%94%d7%91%d7%99%d7%aa\/","title":{"rendered":"Composer-in-Residence: Dr. Benjamin Yusupov"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-16346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Yusupov_pic-343x370.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"343\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Yusupov_pic-343x370.png 343w, https:\/\/www.jso.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Yusupov_pic.png 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><br \/>The music of Yusupov is not limited by genre classifications or cultural and ethnic idioms, but rather embraces and employs all styles and influences to create his own unique musical language both as a composer and a conductor.\u00a0 In his compositions, he makes use of both Western and Eastern musical traditions, including the use of musical sources from various ethnic communities.\u00a0With a strong devotion to timbre and color as important structural elements, Yusupov\u2019s writing includes both the use of exotic instruments and the creation of illusory ethnic sounds by employing instruments of the symphony orchestra.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His extensive catalogue, which is published exclusively by Sikorski Musikverlag, has been performed extensively by a wide range of renowned artists and orchestra across the globe the likes of the London Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Bogota Philharmonic, New World Symphony, NDR Radio-Philharmonie Hannover, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Belgrade Philharmonic, to name a few.\u00a0<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yusupov works closely with outstanding artists as Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky, Vadim Repin, Alexander Kniazev, Maxim Rysanov, Sergei Nakariakov, Reinhold Friedrich, Konstantin Lifschitz and others.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2005, Yusupov\u2019s Viola Tango Rock Concerto &#8211; written for the internationally-renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov \u2013 enjoyed a triumphant world-premiere by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.ndr.de\/orchester_chor\/ndr_radiophilharmonie\/index.html\">NDR Radio<\/a>-Philharmonie in Hannover.\u00a0The music has been welcomed with great enthusiasm by audiences and critics around the globe. The work has been featured in a documentary film about the life of Maxim Vengerov titled &#8220;<em>Living the Dream&#8221; <\/em><em>produced by EMI Classics and distributed worldwide<\/em><em>.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yusupov has also written Cello concerto for Mischa Maisky, commemorating the cellist\u2019s 60th birthday and premiered by Mischa Maisky with Lucerne Symphony Orchestra conducted by the author. The piece was commissioned by three major orchestras: Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic and Israel Philharmonic. Deutsche Grammophon released the CD <em>&#8220;20th CENTURY CLASSICS&#8221;<\/em> with the recording of Cello Concerto from the world premiere.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoices of Violin\u201d Concerto No.2 for violin and orchestra also represents an unusual idea: the soloist is invited to play six movements not only from different historical periods of time, not only from different geographical areas, but also different performance styles, styles of sound-making, bowing, intonation, grace notes and so on. The piece was commissioned by Trans-Siberian Art Festival 2014, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Berliner Symphoniker and performed by Vadim Repin to whom it\u2019s dedicated<em>.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><br \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The short list of venues Yusupov appeared as conductor includes KKL Lucerne, Berlin Philharmonie Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Prinzregententheater Munich, Cologne Philharmonie. He conducted among others Lucerne Symphony, Slovenian Philharmonic, Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Bogota Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony, Novosibirsk Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, to name a few.<br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan in 1962, Yusupov studied piano, composition and conducting at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow with Roman Ledeniov, Yuri Fortunatov and Dmitri Kitajenko.
