Classical 1

Eight wonderful concerts with conductors and soloists from around the world - in our beloved Classical Series - and you can assemble your own series from concerts in both Classical Series 1 and Classical Series 2.

We open our 82nd season with a festive concert under the baton of our designated Music Director, Maestro Steven Sloane with some marvelous works:  Beethoven‘s Symphony No. 3, EroicaHaydn‘s Symphony No.6, Le MatinThe Firebird (1919 version) by Stravinsky and a new work by Israeli composer Aviya Kopelman. Conductor and pianist David Greilsammer returns to the JSO for the 2ndconcert of the series and together we will be performing Two movements from Thamos King of Egypt by Mozart, Piano Concerto No. 3 by Bartók and Brahms‘ Symphony No. 4

We host Italian conductor Alfonso Scarano and Czech alto Barbora Polášková de Nunes-Cambraia for this concert, with a programme including the Overture to Dvořák‘s OthelloSchulhoff‘s Symphony for Alto and Orchestra and Pictures at the Exhibition by Mussorgsky/Ravel, and we are also excited to celebrate Maestro Avi Ostrowsky’s 80th Birthday in a special concert under his baton, and with violinist Boris Belkin. The Programme for the concert includes Dvořák‘s Symphony No. 7, Bruch‘s Scottish Fantasy and Rock by Israeli composer Oded Zehavi.

Spanish conductor David Giménez and violinist Roi Shiloah will perform Beethoven‘s Symphony No. 4, Goldmark‘s Violin Concerto and the overture to Rossini‘s Wilhelm Tell and we host pianist Matan Porat for a wonderful concert under the baton of Yaron Gottfried – featuring two Nocturnes: NuagesFêtes by DebussySchumann‘s Piano Concerto and Brahms‘ Variations on a Theme by Haydn.

Conductor Nimrod David Pfeffer and pianist Andrew von Oeyen perform Beethoven‘s Piano Concerto No. 4, Schumann‘s Symphony No. 2 and the Overture to Weber‘s Der Freischütz.

For the final concert of the series, Yi-An Xu and the JSO host the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition 2020 prizewinners for a special evening.

Terms of Purchase

  • Last season’s seats will be held for renewing subscribers until June 10th, 2016
  • Seats will not be reserved for subscribers to the Family Concert Series
  • New subscribers will be allocated seats after July 10th, 2016, on a first-come, first-served basis
  • The program of the Highlights Series is fixed and the concerts are non exchangeable
  • Tickets for the Pupils and Young People (up to 30)/Student Subscriptions are subject to availability
