Warm greetings to all music lovers,
The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA is proud to present its new program for the new concerts in the 2011-2012 season. This will be the 74th year for the JSO – seventy-four years of a fabulous
array of musical activities, which made the orchestra pivotal in Jerusalem’s cultural life. In the coming season we will be presenting our audience with a variety of over 60 concerts,
present in eight diverse series-sets, with something for every age and preference.
We shall continue to host the finest Israeli conductors, soloists and musicians, alongside prominent artists, conductors, soloists and choirs from abroad.
The orchestra will, as usual, seek out original Israeli creations and compositions, as well as taking part in beloved traditions such as the Israeli Music Celebration, the Young Artists Competition
and the Israel Festival.
We shall also continue with our fruitful partnership with the Israeli Opera, in our series of vocal concerts and in other select performances.
This season we return with a special series of Jewish music and outstanding cantors (chazanut), alongside our longest running series of classical music, with concerts for children, and light and
popular classical music.
During the upcoming season we will be joined by our new Musical Director Designate, Frédéric Chaslin, a prominent conductor and composer, who has been handpicked by a special search
committee, which screened 55 candidates for the coveted post of musical director. We pray and hope that under the baton of Frederic Chaslin, the Jerusalem Symphony will reach new heights
of excellence. Just a few months ago the JSO’s producer-in-chief, Ziva Almagor, passed away, after a protracted
and courageous struggle with her terminal illness. Sorely as we know she will be missed, her memory and her legacy stay on in our hearts.
Our user-friendly website is filled with information about our musical programs, concerts, guest artists, and details of prices, ticketing and future activities. You are welcome to visit us at
www.jso.co.il. You can also join our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter or watch clips from our concert on our YouTube channel.
Special thanks to our musical adviser, Gideon Paz, for his assistance in preparing the annual program.
All the members of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, together with its administration and staff, join with me in wishing you a truly enjoyable season. We are tremendously excited by the
concerts ahead of us and can’t wait for you to join us.
